Pakistan’s First Digital City: A State Government is Finalizing a Master Plan

Technology is moving fast with time. Third world countries face a challenge to keep up the pace with these abrupt changes. The same is the case with Pakistan as it is way behind in technological progress as compared to the developed world.

Digital Pakistan Vision:

The current Pakistan Government has set a goal for themselves to reduce this gap as much as possible. In December 2019, Prime Minister of Pakistan has launched the Digital Pakistan Vision.

The purpose of the Digital Pakistan Vision is to maximize the use of technology for public welfare. It also aims to create an environment where technology startups can flourish. This vision is designed for both the Pakistan Government and the private sector to work together towards a progressive Pakistan.

KP Government to keep up with Digital Pakistan Vision:

Following the footsteps of the Federal Government, Provincial governments are also taking necessary measures to facilitate the entrepreneurs for a new era of innovation in Pakistan. KP government has declared 2020 as the year of digital transformation to keep up with Digital Pakistan Vision.

With many other steps to support IT sector development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to set up Pakistan’s first digital city. Zia Ullah Bangash, Advisor to Chief Minister KP on information technology shares more details about Pakistan’s first digital city.

Pakistan First Digital City Behind Margalla Hills:

4.5 hectares land in Haripur is allotted for the digital city. More land may be added in the future as per requirement. Just behind Margalla Hills, it is not only a scenic location but also near to Islamabad, Federal Capital of Pakistan. It is only an hour and a half drive from Islamabad International Airport.

Digital city provides a perfect platform for operating a variety of businesses and tech-corporation thus becoming a tech hub. KP Information Technology Board is collecting requirements and feedback from potential investors to make sure that city is developed according to the industry-specific requirements. KP government aims to finalize the master plan of the city in October this year. It will take 1-2 years for the city to become operations as per government sources.

Skills Development and Job Creation for Youth:

The digital city is no doubt a major step toward the right direction for a Digital Pakistan. The city will not only provide the opportunity for the youth to develop their skills according to the modern world needs but will also give them a platform to apply these learned skills.

As per government sources, it will create more than 30,000 job opportunities thus playing a key role in the economic development of the country. With different tech operations in the city ranging from hardware factories to software manufacturers, the city will have an important role in the technological progress of the country.

According to the IT experts, the development of Digital city will trigger an IT revolution in the country.
