Top 3 Places To Try Takoyaki In Dotonbori, Osaka, Japan

It takes about 6 minute(s) to read this content.

Japan is well-known as a country with unique and sometimes weird food that you cannot find anywhere else in the world.

Being a Russian myself, I had always been fascinated with Japanese street food as it is very different from the one in my country. There are so many dishes in Japan that are small, fast to prepare, and delicious to try.

Today I am going to share with you my favorite three places where you can find yummy and iconic takoyaki in Dotonbori – a famous place for tourists and locals.

Takoyaki Jūhachiban Dotonbori (たこ焼き 十八番)

This outlet is located in Dotonbori and was the first place I had a chance to try authentic takoyaki. In my opinion, those were and still are the best takoyaki I had ever enjoyed.

This place has an amazing range of different takoyaki types, as well as the possible quantity (usually from 6 to 12), with different sauces of your choice on top. You can feel the crunchy parts on top of takoyaki, and the way it melts in your mouth – definitely an experience worth trying.

Be sure to stop by and give this restaurant a look, I promise, it won’t let you go away unsatisfied.

Takoya Dotonbori Kukuru (たこ家道頓堀くくる)

This restaurant is situated on Dotonbori riverside, not too far from the Glico Man sign. It is famous for being one of the most iconic places, thanks to the giant landmark – an octopus hugging the signboard with tentacles. It tends to attract customers to take some photos while standing in a queue or waiting for their order.

Their original and unique ‘bikkuri takoyaki’ (‘surprising takoyaki’) has big octopus’ legs peeking out of the balls. There are also many other varieties on their menu, including the option of having a miso soup on the side.

Here customers have a choice of buying takoyaki as a takeaway or to have those inside their store.

Takoya Dotonbori Kukuru also has a store at Umeda Station, so you can grab some takoyaki on the go.

Takoyaki Wanaka Sennichimae (わなか 千日前本店)

Wanaka Sennichimae is only 5 minutes away from Namba Station and Doguyasuji Shopping Street, where you can try and enjoy the authentic and iconic takoyaki – crispy on the outside, melting and chewy on the inside.

They provide flavors with original sauces, but there is a choice for Oiri – an assortment of 4 different types for you to try out. Their freshly made takoyaki are great for any time of the day, why not give them a chance?

All these places are located at the Dotonbori area, famous for the Glico Running Man sign and the Ebisu Bashi-Suji Shopping Street.

Come and enjoy some delicious takoyaki while being immersed in the busyness and bright lights of Dotonbori.

You can even make Takoyaki at home. Buy Takoyaki grill pan on Amazon:
