When it comes to food, people from Old Dhaka believe in binge eating. You can’t blame them when they have delicious traditional foods cooking in every corner of that part of the city. Old Dhaka or commonly known as Puran Dhaka offers many magnificent things to its visitors and the inhabitants. The foods found there are so good that people around the country visit Puran Dhaka only to try the foods. If you’re planning your next trip to Bangladesh or already in the country, then don’t forget to try the following dishes.

Haji Biryani

If you ask someone from Bangladesh to recommend a good place for Biryani, the chances are very high that they will suggest you “Haji Biryani” without even giving a second thought. Haji Biryani is the first restaurant in East Bengal to introduce Biryani to the people of Bangladesh. They started their journey in 1939. The dish they offer is second to none. The chef seasons the rice and adds chevon to prepare this dish full of flavor. They use packets made of leaves to serve the Biryani but you can always ask them to use a plate instead if you don’t feel comfortable. Nanna Morog Polao

“Nanna Morog Polao” in the Chankharpool area of Puran Dhaka is another significant restaurant that you should visit. The restaurant offers a dish made of chicken and seasoned rice commonly known as Morog Polao. This one dish is bound to please the most demanding of tastebuds. A beverage called Borhani is served with this dish. Everyone in the city loves this restaurant. You can try it for $2.

Bakarkhani

Originating during the Mughal period, Bakarkhani has come a long way. Bakarkhani is a type of bread that has a Biscuit like texture with a hard crust. The main ingredients of this bread are flour, semolina, sugar, and ghee. Though it can be found all over the country, it’s most popular among the people of Puran Dhaka.
