Uzbekistan: University Entrance Examinations Will Be Held At Outdoor Stadiums

Strange, unusual but safe – Have you ever thought that people may visit football stadiums not to watch championship matches but to sit for exams?

A year ago, nobody in Uzbekistan expected that Coronavirus pandemic would change the traditional ways of taking examinations.

The most populated country of Central Asia holds Public University entrance examinations at stadiums to guarantee the safety of students.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave instructions to prepare the infrastructure of selected outdoor stadiums for exams.

Exam Halls are turning into hospitals

Several reasons exist that make indoor and traditional examinations impossible in Uzbekistan.

First and foremost, exam buildings and halls, which are specialized for University examinations, are being converted into hospitals. The government is preparing the country for new Coronavirus cases because almost five months strict quarantine period could not stop the infection.

Moreover, indoor exams may increase the risk that Covid-19 may spread further.

Preparing Stadiums for Examinations

Ensuring transparency, fairness, and effectiveness has become the most important and demanding task of the Uzbekistan State Test Centre.

But one important question arises:
Can the government ensure international standards in outdoor places?

According to the Head of the Test Centre, Barno Rajabov, all stadium will be provided with cameras and needed equipment. Meanwhile, highly trained invigilators will control safety. (Uzreport News, 2020)

Postpones on exam dates

In the past 28 years of Uzbekistan, State-run examinations were held at the beginning of August. This year will be the first and possibly the last year when the students start taking exams on the 2nd of September.

The Epidemic situation is still serious!

Currently, on 8th of August, the number of people infected with Covid-19 accounts for 29,225, while 20,380 people recovered and 183 died. (Hayit, 2020)

Although it may not seem as critical as Brazil or India, there is a high increase in the number of people infected.

To sum up, university examinations are on the list of the most important and exciting days of each applicant. Therefore, it has become a trending topic of the month.
